More pictures, more pictures!

It's hard to believe that two months have past since my last post! Two months and the house still isn't finished!! It might be shorter to write what is done instead of what is left so here goes:
- Kitchen is almost finished - a few handles and trim and a door left.
- Painting is all done upstairs.
- Most of the trim is done.
- Doors are on (ok most of them.)
- Retaining walls and stamped concrete walkway, patio and deck.
Hummm this list is not very encouraging so I'll get you to look at the pictures instead. Don't mind the mess though... We moved in on May 29th - No lights or plugs working, no furniture, no dishes, glasses etc. It was not much fun and hey, it's still isn't much fun!

In the two months, you have to take out seven days that Gerry was gone to Mexico and now he's decided to go to Ottawa, cause there's work to do there too it seems (which doesn't make much sense to me but what can you do...) So work is pretty much stopped for a few weeks until he comes back - So Ger, anytime you want to come back would be great cause this living like I'm camping all the time is not much fun let me tell you that!
At least the weather has been great so I can go hang out at the beach instead of in this mess!
Enjoy the pictures, I'm going to sit on the deck, or the beach, for a while...

Thanks for your patience!

How am I supposed to remember two months worth?? Here goes...
February: Mostly plumbing, a few delays, one because of a hurt knee! More walls went up and windows and doors. Oh and we got heat with the fireplace!

March: Electrical and more electrical. It seemed to go on forever, almost like the electricians were trying to be slow on purpose (ah yes, when you are paid $64/hour!). It all got done but not without an incident at the end (that we won't go into here except to say that the bad electrician STILL hasn't got paid...)
March was also the insulation - now we are nice and warm even though it's not cold anymore.
We moved again at the end of March, to a cat friendly house because I went to Ottawa at the end of the month to pick up the kitties. They are adapting well but will have to adapt again when we move to the house.

April: Drywall! Beautiful powdery white drywall, finally! Taping finished last week and we started painting upstairs. The primer is done. The closets, ceilings and two bedrooms are all painted and waiting for flooring and trim.

I'm sure I forgot a bunch of stuff so take a look at the pictures and I'll try to update in a few weeks (or sooner)...

We have a roof!!!!!!!!

Spring is here (I think, I hope!!), the snow is gone, the weather is cooperating at least and the roof is finally on...

The trusses arrived on January 9th but half of them were the wrong size and had to be sent back and redone. That put us behind another 4 days, and the saga of who made the mistake went on until yesterday. We never really figured it out, but in the end it cost more money, of course!

After the trusses were up, we had to decide if Gerry and Claude would install the plywood or if we would get the roofer to do it. The roofer we had picked changed his price 3 times (one really great price before Christmas (Xmas present?), one a bit more expensive after Christmas (maybe he needed to pay for Xmas!?) and one even more expensive after that!) So we decided to install the plywood ourselves AND get a new roofer (to avoid another surprised price increase!).

Installing the trusses took about a week, another week and a bit for the plywood and the fascia and five days for the the shingles.

Now we're at putting up the rest of the foam (instead of plywood) around the house and installing the doors and windows. We will soon be at lockup!

We're still here!!

We didn't go anywhere but I decided that the next real update (and pictures) will only be AFTER the roof is on... Yes, we're still working on that! The weather has not been cooperating and neither have the suppliers. They won't deliver materials because the roads are bad and if they do, they drop the stuff at the end of the driveway and we have to carry everything over to the house (pretty far when you're carrying 2x6s!). The truss guy spent all week digging out our trusses and then he wanted to wait until Monday to bring them! We managed to convince him to come today but that's after paying to get the driveway cleaned out and promising that Dave the backhoe guy will pull him out if he gets stuck (more money)...
Stay tuned, maybe by mid-week next week you will have some pictures to look at!!

Incroyable!!

Snow, snow, snow... That's all I have for you since last Sunday, and cold! Three major snowfalls in a week. We hear stuff like "This is unusual" or We've never seen this" or "We haven't seen this in 40 years" or "It usually doesn't stay this long" - Riiigggggghhtt.

Construction has mostly been replaced by shoveling snow. It takes half the day to remove it to be able to do anything. Wednesday's storm left both cars stuck in snow at the lot. We had to call Francine to come rescue us and drive us home. Thank you Francine!! The next day Gerry tried to get a taxi to go to Robin's to get his other tires... No taxis were out! So Gerry and Claude hitchhiked and walked. Took them a few hours but they changed the tires and bought some chains.

They managed to get two walls up on Friday before Claude left for the Holidays. Saturday was break day and today more shoveling... They're calling for more snow all week - this isn't fun anymore!

Snowed in...

What's up with that?! It snowed as much as if we were in Ottawa and now it's -12, get me out of here.!I'm stuck with summer tires and there's black ice everywhere...

The front entrance and garage were finally filled (with sand and maybe a bit of snow now...) on Thursday. A bit more back filling. Friday it poured rain so Dave the backhoe guy didn't come. Not much has happened since then - weekend rest.
Went to Nanaimo to do some shopping, then ribs for supper and James Bond!

Claude is back. Beautiful sunshine but I'll take rain instead of that awful winter weather...

Sand, sand so much sand...

All the basement walls are up and so is the floor!

We needed to fill the garage with sand to we have somewhere put the material for the first floor, so we've been shoveling and tampering sand for the last two days... A workout I don't really want, but it's better than shoveling snow! Many, many truck loads of sand later, the front entrance and garage are almost full and all the drainage pipes are in place.

The labs have been spending all their days with us, actually lying down right beside me while I try to shovel and they follow me everywhere! I guess they like the dog treats I got for them...

Tomorrow, we continue the back filing...

Claude is going home for the weekend so maybe we'll get a day off, to go see a movie or to get a massage??
